My 98 had a squeaky muffler not long after I bought it new. The dealership ended up replacing it under warranty, as the weld on the back of the pipe (against the hanger braket, not the heat shield side) had cracked and rusted out.
I agree with Polar Pilot about checking the belt for the squeak as well. Savage swingarm alignment marks are notoriously inaccurate. See the technical info off the oopeneing page of the site for alignment and squeak issue repairs.
Finally, new or used purchase, the swingarm could have an iffy bearing, causes a walking and subsequent binding under hard or high throttle. No part of a motorcycle, any motorcycle, is infallible, and age or assembly errors are relatively common, regerdless of brand or model.
